He starts seeing her as a woman, and he starts falling in love with this woman. I’ve said before that I’m not normally a fan balgoh the inclusion of children in romance novels and it’s not because I don’t like kids – I have two of my own! I was in high school when I first read this book, and it really resonated with me.
She is perfectly willing to make a marriage of convenience, just not with a man she’s as crazy about as she is about Michael.
She loves one man and is going to marry another. Sounds like a heroine you could just shake until her teeth fell off for behaving so stupidly?
Mary Balogh did a wonderful job of making her characters like onions, as you read you start to peel away another layer that makes you understand them more. Later, Fairfax thinks Jane is not unattractive but it’s after she becomes engaged to another that he begins balogu think of her as pretty.

Blurb was rather misleading, okay, I am not gonna ignore the MB books with mediocre rating anymore. She has snappy dialogue and strong prose. It is one of her earlier stories from I wasn’t absolutely positive I liked this Balogh, at first. A reviewer mentioned how the characters peeled away like onions, and I stand by that.

It was really quite a sweet book, but then suddenly the hero is fondling the heroine and stripping her dress down and it lost a lot of offeer magic for me. She seemed eager for it. Even the sentimental reasons of an unrequited love for a supposedly married man could not have held out over practicality for five years.

He has orphaned children who need a mother. I wouldn’t say the writing is particularly good and I saw most of the plot coming from the beginning, but I felt so deeply for the hero and heroine’s relationship. She must already be well past the usual age of marriage.
