Written in epistolary format, it gives interesting background for the Rain Wild chronicles and charts the development of a spoilt, self-centred, noble lady into a kind, resourceful and highly capable woman Just a tad too good to be true maybe, but nevertheless a captivating story. A quick read – I read it right through at one sitting. The story is given in diary form.
It tells of a noble wife of a noble family, leaving the things she loved behind because her ruler sent her on this exploration mission with her family. But they only find bog, muck, and water that burns one’s skin. Exploratory The story is given in diary form. Their physiology is also changed from their time in the swamp – they have started developing scales over their faces and bodies. While it started out somewhat like the histories of pilgrims to the United States, the ending was far different.

Robin Hobb – Elderkings – Homecoming
A fun little read, but also unnecessary. It’s a good short story, but it does not add to the greatness of the trilogy. What a fantastic bit of weirdness!
Het ging mij om De Thuiskomst: Read in one for Silverberg’s: I knew it was a short story, but when I got to page and noticed that the ‘sneek peaks’ started from there onwards, I was really disappointed.
After I got this book as a present from a dear friend in February I neglected it for way too long. Now I realize I should have picked it up sooner because it is a beauty and I am so happy to have this gem among my books.
Even though I didn’t like the main character in the beginning, she grew on me and I would have loved to know what happened with her a I knew it was a short story, but when I got to page and noticed that the ‘sneek peaks’ started from there onwards, I was really disappointed.
Even though I didn’t like the main character in the beginning, she grew on me and I would have loved to know what happened with her afterwards, although I can guess and the book has a nice ending this way. These days I truelly appreciate a ‘stand-alone’.
Un livre vraiment prenant. The diary format suits Hobb’s writing perfectly. And the story of those first pilgrims is riveting. The growth of the main character reminds me of Malta and it’s a good thing. I like how people who looked stupid or irritating can reveal themselves under dire circumstances.
Now i can read the Rain Wild Chronicles! This book provides an interesting insight into the first expedition to colonize the Wild Riverlands on the Doomed Coast, under thr form of a diary by Lady Carillion Waljin Carrock.
This story is definitely too short. Would’ve made a hell of a novel. That means I read the whole thing, to the last page, in spite of my life raining comets on me. It’s a good book that survives the reading hobn with me. If a book is so-so, it ends up under the bed somewhere, or maybe under a stinky judo bag in the back of the van. So a 2 star from me means, yes, I liked the book, and I’d loan it to a friend and jomecoming went everywhere in my jacket pocket or purse until I finished it.
A 3 star means that I’ve ignored friends to finish it and my sink is full of dirty dishes. A 4 star means I’m probably in trouble with my editor for missing a deadline because I hohb reading this book.
But Rpbin want you to know. I don’t finish books I don’t like. There’s too many good ones out there waiting to be found. Robin Hobb is the author of three well-received fantasy trilogies: Robin Hobb lives and works in Tacoma, Washington, and has been a professional writer for over 30 years.
