Kilcullen does present an interesting subject in an educated manner, and his first-hand experience adds credibility to his argument. This is a book about future conflicts and future cities, and about the challenges and opportunities mountain four powerful megatrends–population, urbanization, coastal settlement, and connectedness–are creating across the planet.

It is all laid out here as an excellent primer, especially his explanation of how the Arab Springs in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya unfolded. Readers who enjoy the work of Robert Kaplan or even Paul Theroux — the engaging mix of adventure writing with sophisticated social and political analysis — will find Kilcullen quite appealing.

The book has some interesting points, but it seems a but diffuse, thrown-together, and hypothetical.
